DENISE KEATS

Denise Keats' pottery studio is near Rockwood, Ontario, in a beautiful natural area filled with peaceful tranquility. Denise, originally from Montreal, has lived in the escarpment area for over twenty years.   She has developed three lines of pottery -- Denware, decorative Raku, and atmospheric fired pottery.

Denware is functional tableware such as bowls and plates, serving dishes, vases, teapots and mugs.  She enjoys experimenting with forms and glazes. She believes that her "pots like being used". She says "A comforting mug, like a vase that holds flowers, reminds me of life's simple pleasures."

Denise has been spending winters in Saint Petersburg, Florida, where she has been exploring soda and wood firing. This work is completely functional, yet, like her Raku work, each of these pieces is one of a kind and can never be reproduced.

Keats' work has been exhibited at several sites in the greater Toronto area, as well as at her studio at 13655 5th Line, Rockwood.  She is a member of the Mississauga Potters Guild.
