Ursula McDermid
Artist Statement
Abstract to impressionism to realism covers the gamut of themes I work with and are all represented in my work in private collections, and on book covers and corporate greeting cards. I am always keenly aware of the natural beauty in all I see with a child-like wonder, which I do not readily admit. The awesomeness and wonderment is spiritual, I suppose.
Artist Bio
My formative years were spent in Northern Ontario where the abundance of natural subjects was inspirational throughout my entire life.
I am a multi-media painter and artist, which includes acrylic, alcohol ink, watercolour, gel printing, pen and ink, and pastel. I have had no formal art training, with the exception of a few workshops. My intuitive creativity extends beyond painting into artistic food preparation and crafts of every description.
As Secretary, President, and Past President of the Fine Arts Society of Milton, I led numerous special projects such as the 9’x 9’ Pan Am Mural (2015) which hangs in the local Velodrome; a 33’ x 8’ mural for the Milton District Hospital (2017); FASM ART on the hospital walls; business art galleries; the Youth Visual Arts Mentoring Program; and management of a retail art space.
Apart from my ongoing involvement with FASM, I currently lead a small art group and have always been amazed by and taken inspiration from the wonderful artists whom I meet on my life’s journey.
